Speaker - BCGS Members’ Meeting

12 March 2025

“He probably had a wife in the U.S. before he married your grandmother.”
“We found pictures that may be his children.”
“He was researching a lost inheritance when he died.”

These were the only details Ron Williams knew about his grandfather, Alfred Victor Williams. As a child, it was enough…until it wasn’t.

In 2015, Ron decided to act. Petitioning his father, more details emerged.  Alfred arrived in Vancouver in June 1947. Within months, he had a home, a wife, and a child on the way. He was fifty-seven at the time. When he died in 1968, he took with him the secret of his first fifty-seven years.

Early research brings few clues, until hints of deception and scandal slowly appear. Along the way, Ron reunites estranged family members. Finally, with surviving documents, photographs, and genealogical tools, the truth begins to unfold—exposing a lost inheritance, kidnapping, and a secret identity.

Join Ron Williams as he shares the frustrations and triumphs of his almost decade-long search for his grandfather’s missing years.
