BC Telephone Directories
Telephone directories for British Columbia are available at the Vancouver Public Library (https://www.vpl.ca/) and in local libraries across the province (https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/sports-culture/arts-culture/public-libraries/find-your-public).
The BCGS Library also holds copies of a variety of directories. Browse our collection here.
A Guide to Telephone Directories in BC was published in 1995 in a publication titled Genealogical Sources in BC, by former BCGS member Barbara Monasch. British Columbia has changed a great deal since 1995, but the guide is still useful for researchers looking for directories for small, remote communities in the province., or even for communities that no longer exist.
The map below illustrates the directory areas that were in use in 1995 and before. Click on the link to find the telephone directory associated with your town or municipality of interest.
